Gillian Davidson

Partner

Gillian has 20 years' experience in insurance litigation. Throughout her career she has advised insurers, underwriters, brokers, government departments, statutory authorities and corporations in relation to their general insurance risks with a particular focus on liability claims. She has handled major and complex claims for the occupiers of commercial and industrial premises, including factories, manufacturing plants, office buildings, shopping centres, leisure facilities, theme parks, and a range of infrastructure facilities including road, water, energy and telecommunications.

Gillian has also managed claims for large Australian corporations who are either self insured or retain a very large deductible. These claims include complex multi party claims involving recovery from contractors and the enforcement of indemnity provisions. Gillian has a large London practice acting for underwriters, brokers and claims managers who place risks in Australia out of the Lloyds Market.

She regularly provides training to clients on developments in insurance and liability law. Gillian has participated in ANZIIF Claims Discussion Group and has been a committee member and chair of this group.

Gillian is considered a "great lawyer, very strong technically but balanced always by a strong commercial approach", as referred to by the ALP Legal500.

Gillian has a prominent role in the not for profit sector and participates in councils, boards and committees in that space. She has been a member of the St Andrews Cathedral School Council, a member of UNSW New College Board and is currently the chair of a significant foundation. She is a member of the General Synod of the Anglican Church and was recently the first female appointed to the Appellate Tribunal of the Anglican Church.
