Making a difference through SHARE

Sparke Helmore has embraced a creative approach to making a difference in the communities in which it operates through a national scheme called SHARE - Sparke Helmore's Assistance, Responsibility and Encouragement Scheme.

SHARE is part of Sparke Helmore's comprehensive approach to corporate social responsibility, which encompasses all aspects of the firm's operations.

Since its launch in 2004, SHARE has assisted a range of charities and non-profit groups, as well as the disadvantaged and marginalised in our community.

SHARE has also provided life enriching opportunities for Sparke Helmore's Partners and staff who have used their experience and skills to contribute to SHARE activities and outcomes in meaningful ways.

Legal Assistance Program

SHARE's Legal Assistance Program provides legal services for no fee or on a reduced-fee basis to individuals and organisations that meet the firm's pro bono acceptance criteria.

So far, this program has benefited non-profit groups and the disadvantaged, predominately in the areas of employment, corporate, administrative and commercial law.

We see our pro bono work as an important way to enhance access to justice for people and organisations that face barriers to securing quality legal advice about their legal concerns.

Examples of assistance include the establishment of charitable foundations, advice to charities about employment, commercial and property law, advice in the engagement of refugee protection officers, delivery of community education seminars on legal issues, and advice on ethical considerations for medical and allied health research.

Community Support Program

SHARE's Community Support Program provides assistance and encouragement to non-profit community groups through workplace giving, in-house sharing of our staff and skills, and the hosting in our offices of community events and fundraising initiatives.

Through these activities, Sparke Helmore tangibly assists non-profit organisations to achieve their objectives and we learn more about their valued work in the process.

Nick Meagher Developing People Program

The Nick Meagher Developing People Program provides mentoring to high school and university students, and incorporates employment initiatives to assist law students with a disability and indigenous law students to obtain experience in legal practice.

Our Partners and staff contribute to a person's life and development by sharing their experiences and expertise, and, in doing so, remember our late Chairman, Nick Meagher, who contributed so much to the legal profession and the broader community.
