How can I apply?

Once applications open, please apply online using www.cvMail.com.au. You'll be taken through a step by step process to fill in an application form and attach your CV and covering letter. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Take the time to prepare your written application and create the right impression. Maximise the opportunity you have in your covering letter and application to create a "snapshot" of yourself. You should include:

  • Your reasons for applying to the Firm
  • Why you are "right" for the Firm
  • Your personal and academic achievements
  • Your relevant work experience

This is an opportunity for you to show us your writing skills. Keep your application concise, check your spelling and grammar, be engaging and use plain English. Remember to revisit your application prior to your interview as you will be asked to discuss it in more detail.

What are the skill sets you are looking for?

We recruit for the future and look for people who have the potential to progress through the Firm - intelligent, personable, committed graduates who are energetic and show leadership qualities. We look for:

  • "All-rounders" who focussed on extra-curricular pursuits as well as their studies - our graduates have often excelled at mooting, debating, team sports or student politics in addition to their studies
  • Team players
  • Clear and concise writing skills
  • Confident and articulate communicators
  • Work experience, eg
    • Summer clerkships
    • Casual paralegal positions
    • Legal aid experience
    • Barrister's chambers

Which offices are you actively recruiting for?

We have a formal application process/timetable for Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and Canberra. If you are interested in Graduate Opportunities in any of our offices, please contact the Recruitment team.

Yes. We can't accept one application for multiple offices - please complete an application form online for each office.

Will I be guaranteed my preferred rotations?

Before you join Sparkes, we'll be in touch to find out what areas of law you're interested in. Whilst every effort will be made to accommodate preferences, we can't guarantee your preferred rotations.

We'll ask you about areas of law that you are interested in during the interview process to get an idea of the areas that you might like to specialise in as a graduate.

Can I send a hard copy of my resume directly to a HR person instead of applying on line?
