Victoria is an experienced commercial litigator and insurance lawyer. She advises Australian and international insurers on policy interpretation and coverage in complex claims. Over the last 10 years, her main focus has been on professional indemnity investigations and disputes. She also has an interest in banking and reinsurance disputes. She has substantial general commercial litigation experience, having acted for individuals, directors, shareholders and companies across the insurance, banking, financial planning, technology, engineering, property, pharmaceutical, government, university and charity sectors.
What she does
Victoria’s approach is to set up a claim for success as early as possible by providing practical, innovative and commercial advice to her clients and to conduct and manage cost-effective litigation. Her focus is on developing an in-depth understanding of her client’s business while continually striving to share ideas and provide timely, quality advice to manage legal risks.
Victoria is mostly retained by large Australian insurers to advise on policy coverage issues, financial reserving and strategic litigation management. She advises and acts for a wide range of professional people including other lawyers, bankers, insurance brokers, financial planners, accountants, IT professionals and engineers in complex, high-value claims and multi-party litigation. The insurance and commercial disputes she has acted in have concerned personal and commercial lending and investment, fraudulent transactions, technology, estate matters, real property, intellectual property, real estate valuations and regulatory investigations and hearings.

Qualifications
Victoria has an LPAB Diploma in Law and a Masters of Law from the University of Technology Sydney.
Life before Sparkes
Victoria returned to Sparkes in 2010 after working for four years at a well-known Sydney CBD intellectual property firm. Her first stint at Sparkes was between 2001 and 2005, and before that, she worked at a Sydney CBD firm specialising in commercial litigation and regulatory hearings and investigations.
Life outside of Sparkes
Victoria is a working mum. Her weekends are filled with sport and catching up with family and friends. She is a keen horse rider, reader and gardener, and occasionally manages to squeeze in a game of golf.
