Terry has spent his entire legal career acting for insurers representing their interests in all classes of risk. His main body of work has involved conducting professional indemnity (PI) and directors' and officers' (D&O) defence work, insurance policy coverage advice and policy drafting.
Terry's extensive litigation and dispute resolution experience includes insurance (PI, D&O, property and casualty), Australian Consumer Law, property, equity and trusts, contractual disputes and the defence of ASIC prosecutions/ investigations and statutory prosecutions.
Terry specialises in insurance law and dispute resolution. He represents and advises insurers, insurance broker companies and individuals that are drawn into complex litigation and disputes.
Terry has conducted trials as counsel in all Western Australian courts and the State Administrative Tribunal. He has represented insurers and insured's in complex multi-party litigation, and representative/class actions.
Terry is instructed by national and international insurers, insurance brokers and loss adjusters. He represents a range of professionals, including accountants, architects, demolition contractors, engineers, financial planners, mining professionals, physiotherapists, real estate and settlement agents, solicitors, stockbrokers and surveyors.
Terry is admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia.
Terry began his career in the early 1980s, working for the Guardian Royal Exchange before CE Health Casualty & General Insurance. He joined Phillips Fox in 1992 and became a partner of the firm in early 1999. In July 2002, Terry started his own insurance law and litigation practice, before joining Clyde & Co as special counsel in 2013, specialising in insurance law and dispute resolution. In 2015, Terry joined boutique insurance firm Jarman McKenna, which later merged with Sparke Helmore in March 2017.
Terry's young family keeps him busy, allowing him little time to pursue his hobbies of wine making and sailing.
