About Kate

Kate is a human resources (HR) executive with extensive experience in professional services, banking and wealth management.

She has held leadership roles in Australian law firms and listed corporates with domestic and international operations, having responsibilities across the United Kingdom, United States, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

What she does

Kate works with Sparke Helmore's business leaders to formulate strategies around culture, leadership, engagement and talent management to achieve the firm's strategic goals. She collaborates across functional disciplines with the aim of delivering pragmatic and impactful outcomes-based HR solutions.

Kate's passion is helping organisations build and sustain competitive advantage by creating high-performing cultures where everyone can "bring their best selves to work". Kate also has deep expertise in diversity and inclusion and in managing mental health in the workplace.

Who she works with

Kate works closely with the firm's Board, Executive Committee, partners and firm advisory and support teams as a strategic adviser, coach and business partner to ensure close alignment of HR strategies with broader business goals.

Qualifications

Kate holds a Master of Commerce in Human Resource Management from the University of New South Wales, a Bachelor of Education from Australian Catholic University and a Diploma of Corporate Management from the Institute of Company Secretaries.

She is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has participated in executive education programs at Harvard Business School and University of Michigan Business School.

Life before Sparkes

Before joining Sparke Helmore, Kate spent five years at CBA as Executive General Manager, HR, for Wealth Management, Risk and Corporate Affairs. In this role she delivered strategies focused on change management, leadership, talent development, and diversity and inclusion. A significant part of the role also involved managing the HR work for mergers and acquisitions, divestments and major business transformation projects. She also held Board roles for subsidiary companies at CBA.

Before this, Kate spent six years at Mallesons (now King & Wood Mallesons), working with the Chief Executive Partner to drive cultural change across the firm in Australia. Kate played a key role in the revision of the firm's vision, strategy and employee value proposition, which included the execution of an integrated people strategy.

She has also previously worked at Westpac and AMP.

Life outside of Sparkes

Kate is a self-confessed AFL tragic and a long-term member of the Sydney Swans. She regularly goes to the footy with her two kids. She is also a member of the Sydney Theatre Company and loves going to live shows and concerts.

Kate currently sits on the Corporate Advisory Board for Habitat for Humanity Australia, the world's largest not-for-profit home building charity.
