Joanna specialises in intellectual property portfolio management, prosecution, commercialisation and enforcement, with a trade marks focus.
Joanna advises clients on a broad range of IP and IP-related matters, including trade marks, copyright, designs, confidential information, consumer law, advertising clearance, food labelling, privacy law, electronic unsolicited messages, business names, domain names and Customs border protection.
She also assists clients to commercialise their technology and intellectual property, including drafting technology development and assignment agreements as well as sponsorship and licensing agreements.
Joanna works with clients from a diverse range of industries, including fast-moving consumer goods, information technology, broadcasting, creative arts, chemical, defence, security, cosmetics, apparel, hotels, tourism, hospitality and leisure.
Joanna has a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Auckland and a Master of Intellectual Property from the University of Technology Sydney.
Before joining Sparke Helmore, Joanna was a Trade Marks Coordinator at DLA Piper and, before that, a Trade Marks Examiner at the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand. As a former Trade Marks Examiner, Joanna has experience advising on brand registrability and management.
Joanna is a closet cooking reality TV show addict and hopes to one day love cooking as much as she loves eating.
