David has been providing legal and strategic advice to mining companies for more than 40 years, including advising most of the local and international mining companies operating in NSW. He advises on all aspects of securing a community granted licence to mine, and on establishing and maintaining a workable and defendable approvals platform.
What he does
David has deep knowledge of the mining application of legal regulatory regime, and the laws relating to mining, planning, property, water, pollution and the environment in NSW and the Commonwealth. This knowledge, combined with his long-standing mining industry experience, allows him to provide pragmatic advice on achieving optimum outcomes for miners.

Qualifications
David has a Bachelor of Laws from Sydney University.
Life before Sparkes
David was the Managing Partner of FitzGerald White Talbot, which was acquired by Sparke Helmore in 2000.
Life outside of Sparkes
David was born and bred in Muswellbrook. He spent time in Sydney at school and university, where he admits to attending more rugby games and social events than university lectures. After graduating, he returned to Muswellbrook to join his father's law practice where, years later, his son Andrew joined him. David has spent years enjoying the sun, sea and surf and has recently added a 23-gear bike to his leisurely passions.
