Sparke Helmore Lawyers' outstanding service to the insurance industry has been recognised with the firm named as the "Insurance Specialist Firm of the Year" at the 2016 Australasian Law Awards.

"Sparke Helmore lives and breathes the insurance industry, with over half of our staff spending every working day helping to resolve claims across all insurance classes. Having our efforts recognised as Insurance Specialist Firm of the Year is thrilling—and not something we take for granted, especially given the great company we kept with the finalists," said Chris Wood, Partner in our Insurance Group.

For this award, law firms were judged on the quantity, quality, importance and innovativeness of their work, as well as their general level of client service, in the relevant practice area during calendar year 2015.

Our 150-strong insurance team works with all the major Australian insurers, brokers and intermediaries based in Australia and the UK. In the past year, we worked on hundreds of claims across all product lines and advised on issues ranging from policy interpretation to legislative reform. Our Insurance team is based in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

We were named as winner of the award as it previously existed as part of the ALB Law Awards in both 2013 and 2011, and were a finalist in 2015 and 2012.

We were also a finalist for the "Australian Law Firm of the Year (100-500 lawyers)" category, which recognised outstanding client service and leading expertise across a broad range of practice areas.

The firm also sponsored the "Sparke Helmore Insurance In-house Team of the Year" award and we're pleased to announce that our client QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited won, with AIG Australia Limited, Berkley Insurance Australia, Chubb Insurance, DUAL Australia Pty Ltd and Suncorp - Vero Insurance Limited named as the other finalists.
